Our Wheelhouse

Long ago, the mice had a general council to consider what measures they could take to outwit their common enemy, the Cat. Some said this, and some said that; but at last a young mouse got up and said he had a proposal to make, which he thought would meet the case. “You will all agree,” said he, “that our chief danger consists in the sly and treacherous manner in which the enemy approaches us. Now, if we could receive some signal of her approach, we could easily escape from her. I venture, therefore, to propose that a small bell be procured, and attached by a ribbon round the neck of the Cat. By this means we should always know when she was about, and could easily retire while she was in the neighbourhood.”

This proposal met with general applause, until an old mouse got up and said: “That is all very well, but who is to bell the Cat?” The mice looked at one another and nobody spoke. Then the old mouse said: “It is easy to propose impossible remedies.”

NATUROPATHIC INTERNAL MEDICINE

  • Naturopathic internal medicine is a specialty focused on the care of adults emphasizing use of the best medical science available in caring for patients in the context of thoughtful, meaningful doctor-patient relationships. Medical visits are offered for the prevention of disease and the treatment of acute complaints as well as the reversal of chronic conditions. One of the most compelling and powerful components of the naturopathic paradigm is the guiding principle of the whole. Each patient is viewed not as a jigsaw puzzle of parts acting independently, but a fluid being where each aspect, be it gene function or thought pattern, is woven into a complex system that defines the entirety of who they are. Just like most integrative health clinics, WHEELHOUSE offers holistic treatment strategies for patients of all ages. What makes the care at WHEELHOUSE so unique, however, is the generative vision that incorporates statistical analysis, systems assessment and genomic data to create personalized healing strategies as unique as the patient.

PERSONALIZED NUTRITION

It’s common knowledge that all human DNA is almost identical. If this is the case, what is it that makes us all appear to be so unique? The answer is epigenetics. Epigenetics is the study of environmental triggers that serve to switch genes on and off leading to unique variations in anything from taste preferences to the development of chronic diseases such as cancer or diabetes.

Diet is one of the more easily studied, and therefore better understood, environmental factors dictating epigenetic change. In fact it’s been shown that dietary influence is strong enough to rapidly alter gene expression, especially early in development. This makes food a powerful tool for healing and establishing your best chance at long-lasting health, or what our own Dr. Moore calls “your disease-free life trajectory.”

When it come specifically to weight loss, most of us have tried at least one fad diet in our lifetime with little or no benefit. As an example, perhaps a friend or family member got great results eating low carb, but when you tried it you gained a few pounds instead. With all the hype and information out there about the best way to eat, it can be difficult to know which way to turn. The fact of the matter is that we are all individuals when it comes to our dietary needs. While some of us thrive on a low carb, animal protein-based diet, others will only be able to improve their health when they eat a diet based on grains and vegetable proteins. So how do you figure out the right food choices for you?

At WHEELHOUSE, we gather a host of information associated with epigenetic factors such as your exposures to hormones in the womb, along with your blood type and secretor status – all characteristics that when combined make you a unique individual with unique dietary requirements. These factors are then used to create a diet plan, using proprietary software designed by Dr. Peter J. D’Adamo, that facilitates decreased inflammation and promotes your personalized, disease-free longevity.  Let the confusion end and your health and waistline improve with a personalized diet plan at WHEELHOUSE.

PROCESS COGNITION

One fine day it occurred to the Members of the Body that they were doing all the work and the Belly was having all the food. So they held a meeting, and after a long discussion, decided to strike work till the Belly consented to take its proper share of the work. So for a day or two, the Hands refused to take the food, the Mouth refused to receive it, and the Teeth had no work to do. But after a day or two the Members began to find that they themselves were not in a very active condition: the Hands could hardly move, and the Mouth was all parched and dry, while the Legs were unable to support the rest. So thus they found that even the Belly in its dull quiet way was doing necessary work for the Body, and that all must work together or the Body will go to pieces.

MIND & BODY

A man who lived a long time ago believed that he could read the future in the stars. He called himself an Astrologer, and spent his time at night gazing at the sky. One evening he was walking along the open road outside the village. His eyes were fixed on the stars. He thought he saw there that the end of the world was at hand, when all at once, down he went into a hole full of mud and water. There he stood up to his ears, in the muddy water, and madly clawing at the slippery sides of the hole in his effort to climb out. His cries for help soon brought the villagers running. As they pulled him out of the mud, one of them said: “You pretend to read the future in the stars, and yet you fail to see what is at your feet! This may teach you to pay more attention to what is right in front of you, and let the future take care of itself.” “What use is it,” said another, “to read the stars, when you can’t see what’s right here on the earth?” Take care of the little things and the big things will take care of themselves.

WORKPLACE WELLNESS

A rich old farmer, who felt that he had not many more days to live, called his sons to his bedside. “My sons,” he said, “heed what I have to say to you. Do not on any account part with the estate that has belonged to our family for so many generations. Somewhere on it is hidden a rich treasure. I do not know the exact spot, but it is there, and you will surely find it. Spare no energy and leave no spot unturned in your search.” The father died, and no sooner was he in his grave than the sons set to work digging with all their might, turning up every foot of ground with their spades, and going over the whole farm two or three times. No hidden gold did they find; but at harvest time when they had settled their accounts and had pocketed a rich profit far greater than that of any of their neighbors, they understood that the treasure their father had told them about was the wealth of a bountiful crop, and that in their industry had they found the treasure. Industry is itself a treasure.

SPEAKING ENGAGEMENTS

A Shepherd Boy tended his master’s Sheep near a dark forest not far from the village. Soon he found life in the pasture very dull. All he could do to amuse himself was to talk to his dog or play on his shepherd’s pipe. One day as he sat watching the Sheep and the quiet forest, and thinking what he would do should he see a Wolf, he thought of a plan to amuse himself. His Master had told him to call for help should a Wolf attack the flock, and the Villagers would drive it away. So now, though he had not seen anything that even looked like a Wolf, he ran toward the village shouting at the top of his voice, “Wolf! Wolf!” As he expected, the Villagers who heard the cry dropped their work and ran in great excitement to the pasture. But when they got there they found the Boy doubled up with laughter at the trick he had played on them. A few days later the Shepherd Boy again shouted, “Wolf! Wolf!” Again the Villagers ran to help him, only to be laughed at again. Then one evening as the sun was setting behind the forest and the shadows were creeping out over the pasture, a Wolf really did spring from the underbrush and fall upon the Sheep. In terror the Boy ran toward the village shouting “Wolf! Wolf!” But though the Villagers heard the cry, they did not run to help him as they had before. “He cannot fool us again,” they said. The Wolf killed a great many of the Boy’s sheep and then slipped away into the forest. Liars are not believed even when they speak the truth.
